Annie Duke explains selection process for new poker league

For a poker league modeled on a failed experiment from 2005, which still has no official players, an unknown incentive added to the prize-pool, and actually doesn’t even have a NAME yet, the Annie Duke/Jeffrey Pollack/Federated Sports and Gaming poker league is starting to leak out a few of the league’s details.

First we received the 4-stop schedule for the tour which will begin in late-2011 and run through January 2012, and Annie Duke recently talked to PokerNewsDaily regarding the selection process of the league, and how they would go about paring down the thousands of potential poker players to just 200.

Duke told PokerNewsDaily that the selection process would be an “objective based criteria” in order to avoid any second-guessing, cronyism, and opinion-based arguments. Instead the selection process will be based solely on a player’s performance in what appeared to be three different metrics outlined by Duke –Obviously it will be impossible to tell how these three criteria are weighted until an official invite-roster is released.

Duke explained the metrics the league would be using to determine who would receive a tour card: “What we’re looking at is how much you’ve won in your lifetime, with your single largest win capped. We also look at whether you have major titles, but you don’t need a major title to get a league card. We also look very carefully at what you’ve done in the last few years.”
