Antonius Strikes Back, Dominates Hansen

For the second evening in a row, Patrik Antonius and Gus Hansen were the most visible high stakes online forces at Full Tilt Poker, which continues to run without US players.
Finnish poker pro Antonius ended up redeeming the losses he incurred to the Great Dane over the weekend. The pair engaged in a relatively brief session of PLO, with 60 hands played at the $3,000 / $6,000 stake level in a Hi Lo format, and the remaining 66 played in a more normal $300 / $600 standard format.
At the session’s conclusion, Antonius found himself positive by $137k. Although Antonius has had a hit-or-miss 2011 so far, this most recent win puts him within $100k of breaking even once again.
Following his match against Antonius, Hansen continued to cruise the $300 / $600 tables, playing anyone that would join him. He never managed to build any momentum, and ended up logging off for the night with a deficit of $168k.
Hansen is still positive by well over $4 million for the year, only counting his Full Tilt Poker winnings. Of course, it’s difficult to say when he’ll be able to actually withdraw those funds.
The lack of US players from the four biggest online poker sites has certainly had a damaging effect on their respective high stakes scenes. Antonius was the biggest winner of the night with a respectable sum, while second place belonged to NoPasaran who only bagged $54k. Aside from this, the night’s biggest winners mostly consisted of relative unknowns: diemaus36o (up $21k), vence0r (up $27k), 0Human0 (up $36k) and KOSTYA (up $47k).
The night’s least successful players also contained mostly unknowns and up-and-comers, such as thecortster (down $26k), podnil (down $27k), Vaga_Lion (down $27k), FallAtYourFeet (down $40k) and scout326 (down $48k).
It may only be a matter of time until major US players such as Dan Cates, Tom Dwan and Scott Palmer relocate to a country where they can resume their high stakes online careers.
