David Gorr is definitely not a household name in the poker world, but on the Australian poker scene the longtime poker player has been one of the most prolific tournament players, playing dozens of events around Australia each year. That said, Gorr’s win in the Aussie Millions Main Event is by far the biggest cash of his career, with his previous best clocking-in at a mere $31,000 for a runner-up finish in a 2008 Aussie Millions side event.
For winning the Aussie Millions Gorr will pocket $2 million, and the Australian Native has extended the hometown winning streak in the tournament to three straight years –following Tyrone Krost in 2010 and Stewart Scott in 2009. Entering the final table most people’s attention were focused on the outspoken chip-leader Randy Dorfman, online poker sensation Chris ‘Moorman1’ Moorman, and poker superstar Patrik Antonius, but in the end it was the hometown Aussies who would steal the show, finishing 1st, 3rd, and 4th!
In a long heads-up battle that surpassed 200 hands Gorr was able to defeat Englishman James Keys for the title. Here is a look at how the final 8 participants fared at the final table of the 2011 Aussie Millions Main Event:
1. David Gorr — $2,000,000
2. James Keys — $1,035,000
3. Jeff Rossiter — $700,000
4. Michael Ryan — $450,000
