Australian Poker Hall of Fame announces 2011 class

You can thank PokerNews.com’s Nightly Turbo reports for bringing this to my attention. It seems the US, UK, and Europe are not the only locale’s that have a Poker Hall of Fame –the ladies also have their own Hall of Fame as well, the Women in poker Hall of Fame—as the Aussies created their own Poker Hall of Fame in  2009; yet I’m just hearing about it!

The initial class for the Australian Poker Hall of Fame featured eight inductees, highlighted by 2005 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Hachem, Poker mogul Antanas “Tony G” Gouga, and 5-time WSOP bracelet winner Jeffrey Lisandro –it should be pointed out that Lisandro and Gouga are not native Aussies. The other five players/contributors that were inducted in 2009 were Lee Nelson, Billy “The Croc” Arygos, Mel Judah, Gary Benson, and Maury Pears.

In 2010, only one player was added to the Australian Poker hall of Fame, Marsha Waggoner. But the Aussie Poker HOF did bestow a second award on Jeffrey Lisandro, elevating him from mere Hall of Fame member to Legend Status after his dominating performance at the 2009 WSOP where he won three bracelets and captured the WSOP Player of the Year award.

Joining the nine current Hall of Fame members will be two inductees for the Class of 2011, recent APPT and longtime fixture of Australian Poker Leo Boxell, as well as tournament director Danny McDonaugh who elevated the Aussie Millions to its current status of the second most prestigious tournament in poker in his years of work at the Crown Casino.
