Ben Lamb Dominates Day 2B of WSOP Main Event

Ben Lamb absolutely crushed the competition on Day 2B of the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event, and there’s no indication so far that things will be different as the tournament moves forward. Lamb, a native of Las Vegas, has already secured four money finishes throughout this year’s World Series, three of which were final tables, to take home $1.3 million in winnings.

If Lamb can keep up the momentum, he’ll be a frontrunner on the short-list of final table candidates, and a win in November would net him an additional $8.7 million. This would give Lamb a total prize of $10 million for his efforts in the 2011 WSOP.

As of now, that momentum is certainly present – Lamb started and ended Day 2b as the overall chip leader, holding 551,600 chips by the time play concluded for the day.

Lamb is also a prime candidate for the title of 2011 WSOP Player of the Year, a race in which he trails Phil Hellmuth by 49 points. Hellmuth is also offering an incredibly strong performance in the Main Event, making it too soon to establish a prediction.

Day 2B began with 2,490 players, including noted pros such as Greg Mueller, Vanessa Rousso, Jeffrey Lisandro, David Chiu, Allen Cunningham, Berry Johnston, Joe Hachem, Huck Seed, Jamie Gold, Daniel Alaei and Jake Cody. After five levels of play were finished, the field had dwindled to just 1,080. Among those hitting the rail were Joe Hachem, David Ulliott, Paul Wasicka, Matt Jarvis and J.C. Tran.

Just as many big name pros survived the day to compete in Day 3, including Sandra Naujoks, Sam Simon, Amanda Musumeci, Jean-Robert Bellande, Sam Stein, Erick Lindgren, Kevin MacPhee, Jeff Madsen and Justin Bonomo. Patrick Antonius, who is best known for his online poker domination, is also in the top 10 with 361,000 chips.
