While the title may be a bit premature, the rumored sale of the Cake Poker Network to PokerListings.com has now been corroborated by two highly reputable online poker outlets in BLUFF Magazine and PokerNewsDaily.com, so it looks like it’s all but a done deal at this point.
We first reported on the possibility of the sale on Monday, but at that point it was simply a lot of speculation –which for whatever reason almost always seems to come true in the poker world. Thus far neither PokerListings.com nor the Cake Poker Network has released any official statement regarding the pending sale, but BLUFF Magazine is reporting that the sale is likely to be finalized sometime in the next 15 days.
Cake Poker’s troubles have been a hot topic of conversation over the past year or so with the network losing several quality sites on their network –Lock Poker, Sportsbook, Players Only, and Doyles Room—as well as parting ways with their Card-Room Manager Lee Jones, and Tournament Director Serge “adanthar” Ravitch. Cake Poker also received some dubious headlines in 2010 when it was discovered that their encryption was subpar and the site was “hacked” by www.pokertableratings.com.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom for the network, they still have a sizable market share and have added three prominent sites in the past year –Unabomber Poker, Victory Poker, and the Poker Pros Network.
