Hansen Nets WSOPE Win for His First Bracelet

written by: Will Comments: Comments Off

Gus Hansen has often been compared to the famous underdog poker player from the United States – Chris Moneymaker. Coming from humble beginnings, Hansen has been known to inspire European poker amateurs to take the next step and hone their online poker skills in hopes of a live poker career. Until now, Hansen’s wrist has remained bare of a gold bracelet. However, this changed recently as Gus Hansen came away as the winner of Event 4 in the World Series of Poker Europe. This marks the first time that Hansen has won a bracelet in the WSOPE. Gus Hansen can now add this gold bracelet to his multiple wins in the World Poker Tour.

The $10,350 No Limit Texas Holdem (Heads Up) event is yet another success that Hansen can add to his resume that has gained him so much respect in the online and offline poker world. Hansen was accompanied by a huge audience on the rail to watch the not quite easy win of Hansen over his last opponent – Jim Collopy.

Isildur1 Makes Early Break on the Main Event of the WSOPE

written by: Will Comments: Comments Off

At least, as most of the poker world is believing. The reputed online poker legend, Isildur1 is now rumored to be Viktor Blom – a Swedish poker professional. If this is true, Isildur1 is in the lead at the WSOPE Main Event going into Day 3. While it is certain that Blom owns the online poker account “Blom90,” Viktor Blom has many poker players convinced that he is also one of the most famous online high stakes poker players of this generation – despite his refusal to confirm or deny the statements. Blom has also refused to grant an interview on the subject.

Isildur1 made his name well know in the Fall of 2009 when he began to sweep through high stakes poker on Full Tilt Poker. One of the reasons that many are tying Blom90 to Isildur1 is that Blom90 made a smash appearance in the beginning of 2009 – amassing a large bankroll on multiple European poker sites before literally vanishing from the online poker world.

World Championship of Online Poker Ends With Mercier on Top

written by: Will Comments: Comments Off

The PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker has always been home to a large number of well known poker players. This year, WCOOP was the feeding ground for many of these poker professionals – most notably this year’s winner, Jason Mercier. Mercier battled his way through all of the competition WCOOP had to offer and ended up the winner, taking home a total prize package of around $435,000 in the $1k NL Texas Holdem tournament.

More than 3,000 poker players turned out to compete in this year’s World Championship of Online Poker to compete for their piece of a $3 million prize pool – much more money than the tournament guaranteed. During the final phase of the tournament, Mercier took part in a 3 person battle with an additional prize package being offered to both the winner and 2nd place finisher, $60k and $15k, respectively.

The One Hit Wonders of Poker

written by: John Comments: Comments Off

The World Series of Poker has changed the lives of many pro poker players, but sometimes these players fade into oblivion. What ever happened to guys like Chris Moneymaker or Jamie Gold? How about Jerry Yang? These are three of the most popular World Series of Poker Main Event winners of the past 10 years, but they haven’t done a whole lot since. Moneymaker is certainly still floating around in the poker world, Yang still makes an occasional appearance, and Gold may have played a bit too much. The WSOP is proof that one big win is far from enough to ensure success in the future. Anyone who wins the WSOP ME was undoubtedly able to run like an absolute go for a number of days, but that may have very well been the only time that these three players ever find themselves as the last men standing.

One hit wonders come in many different shapes and sizes. Some players tried to repeat their success, but just weren’t able to regain the groove they once hand. Other players decided to move on and keep poker on the backburner. No matter their motives or intent, these three players are among the biggest one hit wonders in the game.
