Federated Sports + Gaming Announced New Poker League

Just last year, noted poker pros and industry figureheads Annie Duke, Jeffrey Pollack, David Goldberg, Eric Faulkner, Jeffrey Grosman and Michael Brodsky created Federated Sports + Gaming, an organization tasked with creating a brand new poker league focusing on professional poker players, above all else. Just a few days ago, FS + G announced the name of their all-new league: Epic Poker League, or EPL.

Jeffrey Grosman, the COO of FS + G, described EPL as far more than just an “ordinary tournament league.” He said that the organization is expecting the competition to be “epic,” with the some of the toughest competition in the history of live tournament poker.

Annie Duke and co. have already created a web presence for the new league at www.epicpoker.com. Although the site currently exists as more of a bare-bones web portal, FS + G’s organizers say that strategy articles, tournament results, news postings, detailed player statistics, player rankings and pro player bios will be rolled out over the next month. Organizers also plan to create a brand new social media experience with a focus on poker, though details on this are still unclear.

The Epic Poker League is set to hold its first event on August 5. The inaugural tournament will take place at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tournament will consist of four separate events, all of which come with a $20,000 buy-in, $400,000 in additional prize money and a total lack of rake.

If you can’t afford the $20k entry fee, fear not: the Palms is hosting a series of satellite tournaments that will award free entry into the events. $340 satellites and $180 satellites are to be held each Saturday and Sunday, respectively, with a seat given away to the winner of each event until July 31. Players can also enter daily preliminary satellites for between $40 and $65, all of which award free entry into the pricier satellites.
