Gus Hansen Stomps Competition for $500k; Up Nearly $5 Million in 2011

Gus Hansen brought his dominating reign to Full Tilt Poker for the second night in a row, plowing through the competition for approximately $500k. There seems be no stopping the Great Dane, who won over $300 the previous night and is now positive by just under $5 million for the year.
Most of Hansen’s money came from Scott “URnotINdanger2″ Palmer, who looked very strong early in 2011 when he was up by $1 million. Things have changed for Palmer, and thanks in large part to a series of huge losses at the hands of Hansen, he’s now negative by roughly the same amount.
Palmer and Hansen battled over 867 hands of PLO at the $500 / $1000 stake level. The pair were multitabling, and Hansen got off to a huge $354k lead counting only one table.
Things continued to go downhill for Palmer until he was down by over $500k. At this point he was finally able to fight back, earning $252k at one table and $218k at another.
Unfortunately for Palmer, his efforts weren’t enough and Hansen continued to pound away at him at the other tables. In total, Palmer gave up $385k.
Incredibly, Hansen wasn’t satisfied with the victory and continued to the $300 / $600 PLO tables where he found Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond. It only took 29 hands for Hansen to tack on an additional $130 to his already stellar winnings.
As Hansen continues to approach the $5 million+ mark, the competition continues to fizzle behind him. Gavz101, who is currently in second place in terms of earnings for the year, holds only $1.8 million.
Although Hansen was the biggest winner of the night by far, a few other high stakes grinders had positive nights as well. These included ZeeJustin (up $35k), TightMan1 (up $50k), slipped away (up $113k) and Sauce123 (down $195k).
