Inaugural PokerStars Greek Poker Cup Sets Stage for More Events

Does PokerStars need more tours? Of course it does! There are so many countries yet untouched by the PokerStars tours that Greece must have seemed like a natural addition to any list of places to go.

But it turned out to be a good choice, as the first live poker tournament in Greece was well-received. Hundreds of players turned out for the €1,000 + €100 buy-in Main Event in late March, and they gathered at the Club Hotel Casino Loutraki just outside Athens to play for the Greek Poker Cup title. It was interesting to note that players had to be at least 23 years old to participate, which is quite different from the European tournaments that draw 18-year olds from around the world. Even so, PokerStars sent qualifiers, and the Greeks came out for the event.

Though exact registration numbers and prize pool amounts were not reported, the action from the final table was detailed over on the PokerStars Blog. And it seems that more Greek Poker Cup events may be in the works.

The final results of the tournament were as follows, noting that the only non-Greek at the final table was Swedish player Daniel Carlsson, but the title was taken by a Greek man by the name of Grigoropoulos. Did I mention that he’s Greek?

1st place: Grigoropoulos Georgios (€69,100)
2nd place: Daniel Carlsson (€43,900)
3rd place: Kolonias Alexandros (€24,000)
4th place: Tzimas Georgios (€19,000)
5th place: Poulikarakos Panayotis (€15,850)
6th place: Tsantes Nikos (€13,000)
7th place: Kalfas Stavros (€10,300)
8th place: Kossivas Vasilis (€8,140)
