Black Friday put a lot of things on hold in the poker world –Onyx Cup Series anyone?—including
the Superstar Showdown matches on PokerStars which pit their resident Team PokerStars Pro,
Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, against other top-notch poker players in 5,000 hand challenge matches.
Having been on hiatus since an April 24th win over an online qualifier, the Superstar Showdown
will finally return on June 19, according to the PokerStars blog, and Isildur1’s challenger will be
Rui “pepperoniF” Cao.
Cao first expressed interest in taking on Isildur1 months ago as the two faced off at the more
conventional, standard, cash-game tables, and now the recent graduate to the nosebleed games will
get his chance at Isildur1 in the Superstar Showdown. Interestingly, Cao recently bragged on his French-
language blog about his success against Blom, who he claims to be up over $1 million against.
According to the PokerStars blog the game will be a mix of No Limit Holdem and PLO (two tables of
each) at $50/$100 stakes.
In stark contrast to his cash game woes, where he is one of the swingiest players in poker, Blom has
been dominant in the Superstar Showdown matches having bested seven of his eight opponents –
some people consider the Daniel Negreanu match 1-to-1, but Blom was far and away the big winner
monetarily—with only Isaac Haxton getting the better of the young poker phenom.
