Mike McDonald becomes second EPL champion

written by: Steve under News Comments: Comments Off

Mike “Timex” McDonald has been through a lot in his brief poker career; starting out as an online phenom in his teens; then moving into the world of live poker where he found just as much success; followed by an unprecedented retirement from the game; and finally coming back to poker.

Now McDonald can add yet another major title to his resume as the young superstar has become the second Epic Poker league Champion –Joining Chino Rheem—after outlasting a very tough final table on Friday that included Erik Seidel, Fabrice Soulier, and Dutch Boyd.

Seidel was appearing at his second consecutive final table, but failed to improve upon his runner-up finish in the inaugural EPL Main Event where he lost heads-up to Chino Rheem. This time around Seidel would have to settle for 2nd place and a $184k payday.

Even though the overall attendance was down for the second event of the Epic Poker League season, this was actually anticipated due to the WPT Grand Prix de Paris, EPT London, and WSOP Europe gearing up half a world away. The real test for the Epic Poker league will be the performance of the third stop on the tour, when there is less worldwide competition.

Here is a look at the final tabled payouts from the EPL Main Event:

  1. Mike McDonald — $782,410
  2. David Steicke — $506,260
  3. Fabrice Soulier — $299,160
  4. Erik Seidel — $184,100
  5. Nam Le — $126,570
  6. Isaac Baron — $92,050
  7. Sean Getzwiller — $69,040
  8. Dutch Boyd — $57,530
