The World Series of Poker has experimented in the past with a few different tournament ideas including the Tournament of Champions, the invitational tournament for all former Main Event winners at the 40th Anniversary WSOP, and now the most prestigious poker tournament series in the world is once again pushing the envelope with WSOP Main Event Rematches!

Already scheduled for the 2011 WSOP is a rematch between Chris Moneymaker and Sammy Farha from the 2003 WSOP Main Event –Moneymaker’s improbable win has been widely credited to have been the impetus for the poker boom. Another legendary heads-up battle, this one from the 1989 WSOP Main Event where Phil Hellmuth won his first WSOP bracelet by denying Johnny Chan a third straight WSOP Main Event victory.

The third and final rematch that will take place will be voted on by poker fans –who can cast their ballot at the WSOP Facebook Page—with their choices being:

·    1988: Johnny Chan vs. Erik Seidel
·    2004: Greg Raymer vs. David Williams
·    2006: Jamie Gold vs. Paul Wasicka
·    2010: Jonathan Duhamel vs. John Racener

The matches will have an unusual structure, and will be played in a best-of-three format. The first round will see the competitors replay their classic confrontation with the same chip stacks as the original duel, but the second round will see the players switch chip stacks –wouldn’t that make the Racener vs. Duhamel or Gold vs. Wasicka match quite interesting. Should the need arise, the final round will see the two players square off with equal chip stacks.
