New Network for Doyles Room; Jungleman12 Loses Big

A split between Doyles Room and the Cake Poker Network has been rumored for weeks. Meanwhile, poker forum junkies have been speculating about a new possible home for Doyles Room, with Brunson’s tweets regarding a visit to Costa Rica pointing to the Cereus Network as a likely candidate.

Half of the speculation came true over the weekend, when Doyles Room announced that it had officially left the Cake Poker Network. What came as a surprise to the majority of the online poker world, however, was the announcement of Brunson and Co.’s new home: the incredibly tiny Yatahay Poker Network, which also resides in Costa Rica.

Yatahay, which is best known as the host of True Poker, was previously seeing an average of only 100 players online at any given time. The addition of the 400-average Doyles Room will make Yatahay one of the most progressed networks of 2011. At the same time, this may spell the final demise of the Cake Poker Network, which has already been in a precarious situation since the departure of Serge Ravitch and Lee Jones.

Elsewhere in the world of online poker, high stakes phenom and Maryland resident Dan “jungleman12″ Cates recorded his first major loss of 2011 when he gave up $238k to Gus Hansen on Full Tilt. Their session consisted of 141 hands of PLO at the $500 / $1,000 stake level, a game type typically dominated by Cates. The session served as redemption for Hansen, who finished 2010 with net losses of over $1.6 million. Hansen has earned over $700k thus far in 2011.

Scott Palmer, aka URnotIndanger2, echoed Hansen’s success by earning $233k on Full Tilt’s most prominent competitor, PokerStars. Most of the cash was delivered by Also11, a new high stakes upstart, over the course of several hands of $200 / $400 PLO. The win makes Palmer the first online player to pass the $1 million profit milestone for 2011.
