New WSOP Facebook Application Launched

Through an agreement made between Playdom and Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment, a new WSOP branded poker application is available on Facebook. This poker game will actually be a re-launch of the Poker Palace game that gained popularity on the social network site. Players with the application can play a variety of single table tournaments and cash games using play money awarded through the application. Players can sign in to the app every day to win free bonus money as well as special awards such as million dollar play money bonuses and other prizes and awards. The ultimate play money tournament is also played using this application – with the winner receiving a digital WSOP bracelet.
Winning a digital bracelet is not the only draw that the WSOP is promising players that use the application. The WSOP promises that it will add sweepstakes and tournaments that will result in free trips to Las Vegas and real money live events throughout the world. Playdom also promises to incorporate its large traffic base with the Facebook app – totaling more than 46 million active play money poker players from around the world.
The reception of this new WSOP application has not been warm, however. Many users are complaining about a lack of features that the previous Poker Palace application used with success. For example, many Facebook users are posting common complaints, including:
- A lack of active players available during peak hours or too many empty tables.
- Format problems that make it difficult to find games and view table participants.
- Problems finding friends playing on the application.
- Overly loose play that was not an issue on Poker Palace.
As of today, there are about 500,000 active users on the new WSOP application with an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars. According to representative of Playdom, the company is working hard to address issues that Facebook users are having with the application. WSOP representatives are also working to improve the game. According to WSOP Vice President Craig Abrahams, they will “immediately begin working on improving the game by offering promotions and sweepstakes to make the application more Facebook friendly.”
Playdom has been a long time social networking application developer for Facebook and MySpace with several popular applications including:
- Mobsters
- Verdonia
- TikiFarm
- TreeTopia
- Purina Pet Resort
- Market Street
