Sami “LarsLuzak” Kelopuro and Jens “jeans” Kyllonen are best known in the poker world for driving the high stakes action at the major online poker sites, but lately the two have been participating in a number of live tournaments –especially Kelopuro who you may recall finished runner-up in the 2011 WSOP PLO Championship—possibly signaling a new direction in their careers.
This week the pair was part of a contingent of Finland’s top poker players that included Juha Helpi, Ilari Sahamies, and Jani Sointula in addition to Kelopuro and Kyllonen battling it out in two separate high-roller tournaments, and in both tournaments it was the country’s biggest stars that ended up rising to the top.
According to highstakesdb.com, the group took part in a series of $20k high-roller tournament in their native Finland, and it was Kelopuro and Kyllonen who found themselves in the winner’s circle, with Kelopuro taking down the NLHE tournament after besting a pair of Finnish tournament legends in Juha Helpi (3rd place) and Jani Sointula (2nd place), while Kyllonen had to deal with Ilari “Ziigmund’ Sahamies in the heads-up portion of the PLO tourney –Kyllonen and Sahamies ended up cutting a deal that saw Kyllonen receive $85k and Sahamies $75k.
How hot has Kelopuro been in tournaments this year? Just check out these recent results:
- 2011 WSOP $10k PLO Championship: 2nd place for $503,173
- 2011 WSOP Main Event: 111th place for $54,851
- 2011 PokerStars EPT Tallinn Main Event: 7th place for $35,000
Not to mention in win in the past running of the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP)! Perhaps LarsLuzak has been wasting his time all of these years in the high stakes cash games!
