Patrik Antonius beats Brandon Adams in $30k tennis match

Laying huge odds to Brandon Adams, Patrik Antonius showed why he was considering one of the top tennis prospects in Finland roughly a decade ago, as he crushed his fellow high-stakes poker pro in a best of three match in Las Vegas. The match was first conceived on an episode of Poker After Dark, and after a few delays over nagging injuries and venues the two poker pros were finally able to get the match in on an off-day for the two at the WSOP.

Antonius who was laying Adams some very favorable odds of nearly 10-to-1 on a $30,000 bet, easily dispatched Adams 6-0 and 6-1 to pocket the$30,00 prize –perhaps Adams was a little too unfamiliar with the disparity between a really good Tennis player and a potential pro Tennis player.

Adams talked to Cardplayer Magazine prior to the match and seemed to like his chances, telling the news outlet: “I’m pretty nervous. And Patrick is good. His game is sharp. My strategy is to counterpunch. I have a pretty good game. I can attack, but today I’m just gonna lay low and try not to miss,”

The Tennis match follows in the long line of prop bets that have been hashed on a televised poker pro, which have included such notable propositions as the Durrrr Challenge and the phony/real pepper bet, amongst others. This will be one aspect of televised poker that I will surely miss as the TV schedule has taken a major hit following Black Friday.
