As happens every week, this past Sunday was host to another round of lucrative online poker tournaments at PokerStars. Joao Paulo Aquino, aka Ponga80, came away as the week’s biggest winner with a $198k score in the PokerStars Sunday Million. The latest Sunday Million had a small drop in attendance as compared to last week, with 6,525 players paying the $200+$15 buy-in to create a prize pool of $1,305,000.
Surprisingly, the latest Sunday Million didn’t feature any sort of deal among the final table. Ponga80 entered heads-up play against kmichael14, who was finally eliminated when his 9-9 fell to Aquino’s Q-J suited when the board showed an extra jack. Kmichael14 received almost $147k for his efforts, while third-place finisher Trung “dynastyzz” Tran grabbed a respectable $104k as well.
The only other player to break the $100k barrier at PokerStars on Sunday was Owen Crowe, aka ocrowe, who won just under $102k for his domination of the Sunday Warm-Up. Approximately 3,240 players paid the $200+$15 buy-in to generate a $648,200 prize pool. There was no final table deal to be had in this event either, giving runner-ups assalbi and Milana Jones $76k and $53k, respectively, for their finishes.
The Sunday 500 (so-called for its $500+$30 buy-in) was especially popular this past weekend, with 767 entrants and a $383,500 prize pool that easily shattered the $250k guarantee. As if to follow the trend, this event’s final table also played out without a deal. Rizih, G8h5 and Dimka19881 ended on top of the leader board for scores of $69k, $50k and $37k, respectively.
The biggest tournament of the week by a factor of five was the Sunday Storm. Over 30,000 players paid the $11 buy-in to generate a $300k prize pool. WorDn came out on top to win $23k.
