UB to Host Charity Tournament for Colon Cancer Patient
written by: James under News Comments: Comments Off
Ultimate Bet will host a charity tournament event on Sunday, August 8th at 2:45 p.m. ET
Four years ago, Philadelphia resident Jason La Monaca, 38, was diagnosed with colon cancer. Recently, La Monaca received news that his chemotherapy had been ineffective and that $1,700 of money raised to support him had been stolen. The disease has now metastasized in his lungs and he is continuing treatment at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. While he was storing the money (from a fundraiser hosted by his friends) at his parent’s house, a thief broke in a stole not only an assortment of valuables – but the charity money that he had hoped would help cover growing expenses and medical bills.
The $10 buy in tournament at UB will begin on August 8th as part of the Ultimate Bet Second Sundays events schedule. Annie Duke will be playing in the tournament with a bounty on her head for the player that eliminates her – a free $66 buy in ticket for the $7,000 Guaranteed tournament taking place that same Sunday. As this is a Second Sunday event at UB, the top 10 finishers will also receive the normal entries into the Sunday $200 + $15 and $200K Guaranteed tournaments. The winner of the tournament will also be awarded a special wireless poker controller.
UB has agreed to match the prize pool for the tournament at 100% and donate all of these funds to support La Monaca. So, even if you do not finish in the money, you can turn your $10.00 donation into $20.00 to fight colon cancer and support Jason and his family. If you wish to make a donation to the La Monaca family but cannot play in the tournament, you can also make a Player-to-Player transfer. If you choose to do so, you can make the transfer to the CHARITIES account.
The Second Sundays event last month was hosted by Tiffany Michelle and raised $4,740 for the Crystal King Benefit Foundation. 237 players participated in the event.
