Vladimir Geshkenbein takes home EPT Snowfest title

Prior to winning his first EPT title at the just concluded Snowfest in Austria, Team PKR Poker pro Vladimir “Beyne” Geshkenbein was far from a household name in the poker world, but he should have definitely been on every poker fan’s “watch list”. The €390k EPT win was Geshkenbein’s largest to date, eclipsing the $260k he won when he bested Johnny Chan heads-up at the 2009 APPT Macau High-Roller tournament.
The young, brash, hyper-aggressive, Russian started the tournament in style, as the Day 1 chip-leader, and was never far from the top spot throughout the entire tournament. Geshkenbein has an almost maniacal style to his game, but considering his results in high-stakes cash-games he obviously isn’t as crazy as he seems. Coupled with his style of play, the poker pro’s brash table talk has a tendency to tilt his opponents, and Geshkenbein DEFINITELY is a talker at the poker tables.
Take his comment to eventual runner-up Kevin Vandersmissen just prior to the final hand of the tournament that was reported by PokerNews.com’s live reporting team: “Moments before the final hand was dealt Geshkenbain (sp.) joked to Vandersmissen that he should not look so sad because second place is a good result too.”
Here is a look at how the final table fared at the 2011 PokerStars EPT Snowfest Main Event:
1. Vladimir Geshkenbein — €390,000
2. Kevin Vandersmissen — €260,000
3. Koen De Visscher — €147,000
4. Giacomo Maisto — €100,000
5. Cristian Dragomir — €81,000
6. Philip Meulyzer — €65,000
7. Denis Murphy — €49,000
8. Morten Mortensen — €35,000
