Carbon Poker is a popular online poker room with a dedicated following. The site has achieved success by offering comprehensive customer support, varied poker game types and cutting edge poker software. Unfortunately, Carbon Poker is only offering Windows-compatible downloadable software at this time. Further, Carbon Poker has yet to release an Instant Play version of their software. This means that Linux users who wish to play Carbon Poker will be required to run the software under a Windows emulator for Linux, such as Wine.
Installing Carbon Poker Linux
Before installing Carbon Poker on your Linux computer, you'll first need to download and install Wine. Wine is an open-source Windows emulation program designed specifically for the Linux operating system. With it, you'll be able to enjoy virtually any Windows program without leaving Linux. Many Linux users already have Wine installed on your computer, but if you don't, follow these instructions to complete the process:
1. Within the Linux OS, open the Synaptic program.
2. Check under Synaptic Settings and find the tab labeled Repositories.
3. Make sure that Universe is enabled by clicking on it.
4. Run a search in the upper right box for "Wine."
5. Wine should appear in the search results. Click on it to mark it as ready for installation.
6. Click on Apply.
7. Watch as Wine automatically downloads and installs to your computer. Depending on your system preferences, Wine may choose an installation destination automatically. If you're prompted to choose the destination yourself, choose Applications.
Your Linux system is now prepared to accept the Windows version of Carbon Poker. Direct your browser to CarbonPoker.com and click How to Play. On the following page, click the Play Now Free Download link. Carbon Poker Linux will now download to your computer. Double click the downloaded file and install it under Wine in the Applications folder. As with playing Carbon Poker on a Windows computer, you'll be required to register as a real money player with Carbon Poker Linux before you can play at the tables.
