Party Poker offers a no-download alternative that allows Mac users to have the same quality online poker experience that Windows users have with downloadable software. This feature, called Anywhere, allows Mac users to play Party Poker with only an Internet browser. This also means that system requirements are less stringent, allowing players with older computers to enjoy what Party Poker has to offer.
Accessing Party Poker for Mac
1. Visit PartyPoker.com with the web browser of your choice. Be sure to turn off your browser's pop-up blocker or add PartyPoker.com to its list of exceptions.
2. On the Party Poker homepage, click on Instant Play. This button is located directly below the larger Free Download button.
3. A new window should open and Party Poker Anywhere should begin loading.
4. After the Party Poker Mac software is finished loading, a warning message from your computer should appear. Click Trust when prompted.
5. Wait for any additional loading to finish. You should be immediately taken to the Party Poker lobby. Once you register an account or log in to an existing account, you can begin playing.
System Requirements for Party Poker Mac
There are a few minimum system requirements that must be met in order to play Party Poker Anywhere in your browser, but they are very light compared to the requirements of most downloadable software clients. Most Mac computers manufactured in the last 10 years should be able to run Party Poker Anywhere with ease. Following are the minimum requirements.
Internet Browser: Mozilla Firefox 1.0 or higher/Safari 1.3 or higher
Java Software: Macintosh Runtime for Java (MRJ) 2.2.5
Screen Resolution: 800 x 600 or higher with support for at least 256 colors.
Memory: 128 megabytes of RAM or more.
Sound: A sound card is required to hear audio, but is not necessary for the software to function.
Differences between the Mac and Windows Versions of Party Poker
Being browser-based causes Party Poker Anywhere to have a few advantages such as no required downloads, access from any Mac computer and lighter CPU load. Unfortunately, only requiring an Internet browser also somewhat limits Party Poker Anywhere in terms of functionality. The following features are currently not featured in Party Poker Anywhere:
Table filters
Buddy lists and player search functions
Hand history
Private tables
Table search
Network status
Dealer options
Chat block
Player notes
Table tiling, resizing and cascading
It should be noted that Party Poker Anywhere is frequently updated and many of these features may be implemented in the future. These differences aside, Party Poker Anywhere plays identically to the downloadable software version. The lobby layout is identical and game play features such as betting and folding are not affected.
With the creation of Party Poker Anywhere, Mac users can enjoy the same high-quality poker action as Windows users with downloadable software. Party Poker Anywhere allows Mac users to play online poker from nearly any computer with an Internet connection.
