Players Only is an online poker room, sportsbook and casino that offers downloadable poker software designed for Windows. Currently, Players Only does not plan to add native software support for the Ubuntu operating system. However, this does not mean that Ubuntu users have to be excluded from Players Only. You'll be able to enjoy all of the software features and game types available at Players Only on your Ubuntu computer by downloading and installing an emulation program as well as the Players Only Windows software.
Installing Players Only Ubuntu
In order to run Players Only Ubuntu, you'll first need to install an emulation program entitled Wine on your computer. This is an extremely popular emulation program for Ubuntu, and you may even have it installed under your Ubuntu OS already. If you don't, follow these steps to get Players Only Ubuntu up and running.
1. Open the Synaptic program within the Ubuntu OS.
2. Click on Settings.
3. Click on Repositories.
4. Enable Universe by clicking on it.
5. Search for Wine in the upper right corner of the window.
6. Mark Wine for installation by clicking on it and choosing Apply.
7. Wine will now begin to download to your computer. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
At this point, you'll have Wine installed on your computer. However, you'll still need to download the Windows version of Players Only, install it on your computer, and create a Players Only membership. This process is easier than installing Wine itself:
1. Direct your preferred browser to PlayersOnly.com.
2. Mouse over the Poker tab and click Download Now.
3. Once the download finishes, double click on it to begin installation.
4. When prompted for an installation destination, select Wine under Applications.
Players Only Ubuntu Features
Unlike some poker sites, Players Only does not currently offer an Instant Play, browser-based version. This means that there is no alternative to running Players Only Ubuntu through emulation. Fortunately, users who are able to install Players Only Ubuntu under Wine will have access to all of the features available at Players Only. Some features include:
-Deal It Twice, which allows two all-in players to decide whether the turn and river cards will be dealt once or twice
-Expose One Card, which is a strategic option allowing an active player to expose one of their hole cards to the table
-Multitabling for up to 4 simultaneous windows
-Player Tags, which allow you to tag players according to their perceived skill level
Depending on your computer setup it may be possible to experience graphical glitches, and in some cases, system crashes. This is due to the nature of running Players Only Ubuntu with an emulator. In most cases, these Players Only Ubuntu glitches will not affect your actual poker performance.
