5 Card Stud is one of the most popular poker variations. Several variations can be played in order to make the game more fresh and exciting. One of the best variations on traditional 5 Card Stud is 5 Card Stud with Replacement. 5 Card Stud with Replacement is identical to the original game except for the fact that every player has the option of replacing one of his or her cards after they are dealt. Players will have to pay a predetermined fee to exchange a card.
5 Card Stud with Replacement Rules
5 Card Stud with Replacement begins in exactly the same way as regular 5 Card Stud. The dealer gives all players one card face down and one card face up. It is at this time that players have the option of replacing one of his or her cards in 5 Card Stud with Replacement. If a player exchanges the card that was dealt face up, the new card is also given face up. Likewise, if a player exchanges the card that was dealt face down, the new card is given face down. Players have to pay a fee if they decide to exchange one card. The fee should be high enough to discourage every player from exchanging a card; however, it should also be low enough so that some players will want to exchange their card. The fee for exchanging a card in 5 Card Stud with Replacement is generally between 5 and 10 times the ante. A player who declines a replacement card cannot choose to exchange a card later in the game.
A round of betting takes place after all of the cards have been dealt and any replacements have been made. Another face up card is given to each player after the initial betting round. This card is referred to as Third Street. More betting occurs, beginning with the player with the best visible poker hand. A fourth card, called Fourth Street, is dealt face up after this round of betting. A round of betting occurs and a final card, referred to as Fifth Street, is given face up. More betting takes place and players reveal their face down card during the showdown. The player with the best traditional poker hand wins 5 Card Stud with Replacement.
5 Card Stud with Replacement Strategy
Similar to traditional 5 Card Stud, 5 Card Stud with Replacement games rarely make it to the showdown. There is little doubt during the game as to which player has the best hand because there is only one card dealt that is not revealed. This causes most players to fold if they do not think they have a hand that has any chance of winning. 5 Card Stud with Replacement features little bluffing. The main strategy of the game takes place when you decide whether or not to replace your card at the beginning of the game.
